The 250 Class saw the rookies show up and give some of the veterans a run for their money. In moto 1, after a drag race to turn one, Rookie Eli Tomac seemed to surprise everyone when he ended up within the top 5 on lap one. Pourcel had a pretty dominant run on the rest of the pack, though for most of the race, until a mistake gave first place to Eli Tomac. Luckily for Pourcel, Tomac made a mistake which gave Searle the lead. Pourcel then had to fight for the final three laps for the win, barely edging out everyone else, but eventually taking the win.
Will Hahn took the holeshot of the second race. Surprisingly though, it was the rookie show this year, and Eli Tomac seemed to pass both riders, and eventually took the win. This was the first true 250 rookie to win overall in his very first try, with a (1,3)

450 Class
Chad Reed started his weekend nicely, with a holeshot in race 1 of the 450 class, followed by Millsaps and Alessi. Reed eventually had a pretty commanding lead over his rivals, showing that last seasons injuries shouldn't be a problem any more. Grant and Millsaps had a pretty nice battle mid-way through the race. Eventually Alessi and Grant caught Millsaps. Alessi tried to make a pass stick, but in the meantime, Grant snuck around both riders, taking 2nd place behind Reed.
In Moto 2, Reed, and other front runners in the previous race had a relatively dismal start in this second moto, with Alessi as the exception, who jumped out to an early lead. This was especially significant, because Alessi is riding the KTM 350, while everyone else was riding 450's. It definitely makes you want to stop and think a bit about the KTM. After the mediocre start, they had to battle through Townley, Sipes, and Short to try to work their way up to the front of the pack. Chad Reed put out the strongest effort of the bunch, working his way up from around 10th place, to finish eventually in third.
