Kevin Windham took one of his usual holeshots, while Chad Reed and James Stewart had one of their typical turn one tangles. Metcalfe and Millsaps took second and third, with Canard and Dungey back in the field. Villopoto had a bad start as well, so three of the big hitters were outside the top 10 at the start of the race. Canard and Dungey began riding hard to get up to the front, and Andrew Short worked up to sixth. All of the riders continued to work to the front while Windham was leading, other than Stewart who had a second crash while pushing hard to get up front. In the Rhythm section, Windham went over the bars and handed canard the lead. Dungey was pressuring him to make a mistake, but that never happened and canard barely edged out Dungey at the finish line.
