AMA Supercross - Phoenix Race Report

The race started out with Stewart taking the holeshot followed by Windham, Villopoto, Brayton and Canard. Ryan Dungey and Chad Reed were in 7th and 8th after less than ideal starts. Villopoto worked past Windham to take second, as Reed, Dungey, and Canard were fighting to get up front as the race began. A lot of riders complained of a slippery track, so riders were on edge all night. Tommy Hahn crashed and ended his night early on lap 3. As the race continued, Villopoto and Stewart played "cat and mouse", waiting to see which rider made the first mistake, unfortunately for Villopoto, it was him. Dungey and Reed battled back and forth, but a lot of mistakes allowed Reed to get past. Trey Canard got past Reed to take the final spot on the Podium.

Last year, James Stewart crashed, and broke his hand, putting him out of commission for nearly a year, this year was a different story. From the first practice to the end of the main event, Stewart was dominant. He was the fastest guy out there, nobody could touch him, it was basically a perfect weekend minus a minor mishap during the heat race.

Ryan Villopoto was the only guy out there who could even come close. He was close to him in qualifying, won his own heat, and could have potentially brought a great battle if it werent for a crash.

Trey Canard on factory equipment was the next closest rider. Although you can tell he's still working out the kinks, he'll be on the podium more than once this season I'm sure.
