Race Report: AMA Superbike at Auto Club Speedway

This weekend saw the AMA Superbike series head to Auto Club Speedway (Formerly California Speedway) for round two. Competitors faced some stiff winds early on, ending the day early on friday. Once Saturday came around, the race was on though. The drama filled results are as follows:

Superbike Race 1:

The riders finally saw enough of a break in the wind to get a practice and their first race in. The first lap saw most riders come through clean, except for a spill in turn one by Chris Peris. It was good to see John Hopkins racing. According to some reports, he was battling some wrist problems all weekend, and was having a hard time manipulating the throttle as well as making the quick transitions in the chicanes. After a good start, John Hopkins was holding third place. The rest of the race was relatively anticlimactic. The race saw a leader break out, with the lead pack eventually catching right back up with them. The top four eventually broke away to finish the race as a tightly wound group that seemed like anyone could win

The AMA Daytona Sportbike race seemed like it could have been anyones to win. After a drama filled Daytona 200, all eyes were on the grid at the start of the race. It seemed like nearly all of the riders were coming up from behind to battle for the win. Dane Westby has proved that he wont be a flash in the pan podium contender, as he backed up his daytona performance with his result here. The racers all seemed to struggle with poor setup due to lack of practice, being furthermore hampered by strong winds. The results for race one were as follows:

As Sunday rolled around, it was on to Superbike Race Two. Unfortunately, as Aaron Yates was on his warmup lap performing a wheelie, he lost traction immediately as he set his front wheel down, and crashed. As he was sliding down the track, he was then hit by a closely following Chris Ulrich. This unfortunate racing accident caused a suspected broken leg for Yates, who obviously had to miss the race. As the race was going, it looked like Hopkins finally had a bike that could win it, but as mentioned before, the wrist injury kept him from the front in the long run. Larry Pegram had an unfortunate crash as he entered the banking, which effectively killed his chances at winning the race as well. The results are as follows:
