R.I.P. Roadracer Peter Lenz

Peter Lenz was an up and coming racer, who crashed during a warm up lap during this weekend's events at Indianapolis. Following his crash, he was struck by another rider while he was down on the track, despite waving his arms to alert oncoming riders. He eventually succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. The other rider was not injured.

On a personal note, naysayers might question a rider of his age being allowed to ride at the track. I personally have had the privilege of riding on a track with him, and noted how safe, smooth, calculated, and well thought his on track decisions were. Not only was he faster than a majority of riders on the track, he was safer, smarter, and smoother. My thoughts do not reflect those of Sheckler Racing, this is simply a personal "off the record" account of Lenz' talents.

The racing community has lost one of its future stars. Lenz was a licensed expert by age 11 by the AFM. The only other rider who has been licensed that young was Randy Mamola. It was common knowledge that he would move on to international stardom in the coming years.
