The holeshot went to X games regular, and former gold medal winner Josh Hansen. He got a little over excited, and overjumped the first big kicker, but he was on a mission to win. Josh's lap times were good, and the riders behind him (Josh Grant, Ivan Tedesco, Justin Brayton, and Dan Reardon) were having a hard time matching the pace.

Unfortunately for Hansen, he got a little bit too comfortable, and began showboating a bit. Pointing to the crowd before the half way mark, almost jinxed him it seems. Josh Grant began reeling in the possibly overly confident Hansen, and passed him in the whoops. It seemed like a race of fitness, and Grant who has been racing outdoors, seemed to have the edge. As Hansen continued to wear down, he jumped off the course, and was passed by Tedesco and Brayton. Luckily for Hansen, he saved face and passed Tedesco, to take the bronze medal.
